Plant the 9- to 11-inch rhizome in mid-spring when soil and air temperatures are consistently above 60°F. Space bulbs 18 to 24 inches apart and bury them 2 to 4 inches deep. In cooler climates, dig up the bulbs in fall and store them in a cool, dry spot where temperatures remain above 45°F. Replant the following spring for another season of bold tropical beauty.
