AlgiSite M Calcium Alginate Dressing creates and maintains a moist healing environment, enabling epithelial cells to migrate freely across the wound surface. When gelled, AlgiSite M helps promote the passage of water vapor, oxygen, and carbon dioxide to maintain the hydrophilic environment.

Features:

  • Fast Gelling, high mannuronic acid fibers
  • Low fiber shed construction
  • High integrity when wet
  • Soft and conformable
  • Will not adhere to delicate tissue in wound bed
  • Highly absorbent

Forms a soft gel to absorb wound exudate. Produces a gel on contact with the alginate fibers to maintain a moist wound surface environment. Helps prevent eschar formation. Allows wound contraction to occur which can reduce scarring and allows for gaseous exchange for a healthy wound bed.

Used to manage full and partial thickness leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, lacerations, abrasions, skin tears, and minor burns.

Not for use until wound packing in cavities or sinuses has been removed. Not for use on lightly exudating wounds or on patients allergic to alginates.

Application:

Cleans the wound according to facility guidelines. Choose a dressing slightly larger than the wound and apply in contact with the wound base covering the entire surface. If the wound is deep or undermined use the alginate strip. Cut or fold dressing as necessary to cover little of the surrounding skin in order to prevent maceration. Cover with an appropriate retention dressing. Exudate will evaporate from the surface. Secondary dressings should not interfere with evaporation if exudate is heavy.

Removal:

For heavily draining wounds, change daily. As wound heals, reduce changes to twice weekly or weekly as necessary. If dressing cannot be removed easily, moisten with saline to remove.

I love this and use it daily in my practice at an Urgent Care. It is easy to use and very handy, I keep in my drawer beside me and use it often. It gives everything about the drugs and the diagnoses are easy to find and listed alphabetically. Great quality and well written. Would highly recommend!
